Bradley International Airport: The Bradley International Airport is located about 12 miles from Springfield (south) in Windsor Locks, CT. It is the prime airport serving the Knowledge Corridor area surrounding Hartford and Springfield. It is the 2nd largest airport in New England.

Westover Metropolitan Airport: The Western Metropolitan Airport is located about 5 miles from Springfield (north) in Chicopee, MA. It has the largest military services and facilities in New England and also is used for commercial flights.

Springfield is served by Amtrak Vermonter and the Lake Shore. The Springfield Union Station is the Amtrak Station in Springfield. It is the 5th busiest Amtrak station in the U.S. state of Massachusetts.  It is an intermodal transportation facility with areas for both buses and trains. It serves as a nexus between trains and local, intercity and regional buses. 
The main service at the Springfield Amtrak station is the New Haven-Springfield shuttle trains that connect Springfield to New Haven- Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor trains. Long distance train includes Amtrak’s Vermonter and Lake Shore Limited. The Lake Shore connects Springfield, Worcester and Boston everyday to Chicago and Albany. The Vermonter uses the Connecticut River Line that begins in Washington, D.C. and ends in northern Vermont, with stops along the way at Springfield and Hartford.  There are trains daily between Springfield, New York City and New Haven. Also, a commuter rail service- Hartford Line is scheduled to begin the service in 2018 January.

Peter Pan Bus Lines: The Peter Pan Bus Lines operates the buses in and around Springfield. It is a long-distance bus service headquartered in Springfield. It connects popular destinations in Springfield, Boston, Albany, Cape Code, and many more.

Getting to Springfield by Car

Springfield is serviced by several interstate highways. It is easily accessible by I-90 also known as “The Mass Pike” that runs east to west beginning in Boston and terminating in Albany.  Another interstate highway is I-91 that runs north to south beginning from Canadian border until the New Haven, Connecticut.  The major cities along the I-91 route include Springfield, Hartford and New Haven.  Interstate-291 offers a secondary connection between Interstates 91 and 90. It is a connector from Interstate-90 in Chicopee to Springfield.  

Getting Around Springfield

Springfield is one of the most walkable cities in Northeast. Many of its points of interests, historic sites, entertainment venues and restaurants are accessible by simply walking.  All the major spots like the Forest Park and the Basketball Hall of Fame are congregated in the Metro Center neighborhood also known as the downtown Springfield. Just about everything Springfield has to offer is within walking distance.

Other areas of Springfield, beyond the Metro Center are accessible by the PVTA bus. The Pioneer Valley Transit Authority (PVTA) buses are reliable, cheap and comfortable to get around the city.
